Affiliate Focus: 1 Project at a Time

The art of focus

This is a very short newsletter having attending back to back to back conferences. It follows in some of the affiliate coaching articles I have done.

I’m currently talking to an affiliate that is looking to build a site and he asked a question about another domain he could start and without hesitation, I immediately said to focus solely on 1 project.

Special shoutout to StatsDrone and FTDx for supporting this newsletter!

He had a great idea for 1 site but based on how affiliate marketing is today, quality is everything. Building 2 brands is very difficult compared to building just one.

If you look at some of the most successful affiliates in the business, they seem to have a strong central focus.

That is, they got very successful building one project where they were then able to take their processes and learnings and apply it at scale via M&A.

Now in saying that, there are some companies that did M&A and adding more projects had the opposite effect.

I know some people think about the risk of having all eggs in one basket but we live in a world where quality is starting to get rewarded over quantity.

You don’t see articles about big companies acquiring a portfolio of 500 affiliate sites, rather the acquisitions are of a single site like Bojoko acquired by North Star Network for example.

If anything, I’d say multiple channels on the same brand are ok but even then, I’d recommend mastering one channel at a time. Trying to be good at X, LinkedIn, YouTube or Instagram is just too much.

Building a brand should be the central focus and I think any affiliate starting out, they need to make a difficult decision to pick one project and stick with it to build it out.
